INSTRUCTIONS TO TRAIN THE CAT

Before you start, follow these guide lines:

  • Be sure to first view Demonstration Video.
  • This training will begin outdoors.
  • Cat should be hungry before starting each training session.
  • Remove batteries from outdoor receiver and DO NOT plug in indoor receiver.

1. Take your cat outdoors. Offer small amount of food by hand and also put some food in the training dish.

2. Introduce cat to Pet-2-Ring by placing both of cat’s paws up onto the Push Lever. After a few training sessions, your cat will think that this is his new feeding station.

Repeat steps #1 & #2 several times, until your cat will go up onto     the Push Lever without your help. If your cat can do this with no hesitation, you can now proceed to step #3. Otherwise, repeat steps #1 & #2.

3.  Now your cat should be ready for his first big test. Replace the batteries in the outdoor receiver and also plug in the indoor receiver.

4. DO NOT put any food in training dish. Put your hungry cat outside and close the door.

5. Be patient, your cat will go up onto Push Lever and both receivers will chime simultaneously. Open the door immediately to let your cat inside. Give cat praise and a treat.

Repeat steps #4 and #5 as often as needed. Training procedure is called
“Behavior Modification” It has been tested for years and proven highly successful.

  • Pet striking on the Push Lever.
  • The sound of the chime.
  • The opening of the door.

These acts all take place within a few moments. Animals are creatures of habit. You have created a new pet behavior.

OPTIONAL TRAINING METHOD FOR DOG OWNERS

Many dog owners already receive a signal, a bark or some other message from their dog that it wants to go outside to relieve itself.  In that case, this easy Optional Training Method should be used. Before you let the dog outside, always put ONE paw onto the Push Lever so that the dog will hear the chime sound and immediately open the door. PLEASE, NO TREAT AT THIS TIME. We do not want the dog to relate pressing on Push Lever with a treat.

Eventually, the dog will ring the device on its own and may slowly abandon the old method. With this Optional Training Method, there is no “Cardinal Rule” because you know your dog’s habits best.

With this training method, you can ignore the special mounting height instructions. Just mount the Pet-2-Ring Doorbell horizontally indoors at a height where the dog can easily press on the Push Lever.

REMINDER! All family members should work together. Someone must always be ready to open the door when your pet rings otherwise all training will be counter-productive.
